Frederick On Display at International BIO Convention

Frederick County OED joined the Maryland Department of Commerce and more than 40 companies, organizations and regions from the state’s biotech community at the 2018 BIO International Convention, June 4-8 in Boston. This year BIO attracted more than 17,000 attendees from 48 states and 74 countries, the highest attendance in nearly a decade. BIO is the largest international life sciences conference, providing an unparalleled opportunity to connect face-too-face with hundreds of biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies and professionals; attend educational sessions that enhance OED’s knowledge and understanding of this key industry sector; and to network with other organizations that can provide support to existing Frederick County companies.

OED partnered with the City of Frederick Department of Economic Development (DED) to exhibit in the Maryland Pavilion, organized by the Maryland Department of Commerce. This year’s theme was “Frederick, Maryland: Where Cultures Connect,” telling the story of Frederick County’s culture of research and innovation that blends with a lifestyle that attracts top talent.

In addition to the convention and exhibit hall activities, the OED team participated in several smaller events throughout the week, including a Maryland Life Science Breakfast hosted by the Maryland Tech Council, ArcPoint Strategy and WIlmerHale. The event featured a panel life science investors and executives who shared their insights on emerging trends in biotech and how they are impacting tomorrow's investment decisions. Panelists also discussed the current market environment, potential areas of value creation for the future, and analyzed how partners can work together to drive innovation and investment.

OED was joined by Frederick-based RoosterBio, Trideum, Theradaptive, BioFactura – all companies are clients or graduates of the Frederick Innovative Technology Center Inc (FITCI), Frederick’s technology and life sciences business incubator.
